Below you will find a reference guide for our discount types. Each type provides a brief description of how the discount can be used.
Early Bird
There are two ways of creating a discount for attendees who book early. Your decision will depend on how you want the early bird price to be displayed to the booker on the basket page. You can do one of the following:
Create a discount using the "Early Bird" option on the discount page; attendees will see a line item showing the full price, and a separate line item showing the amount discounted
Create the early bird rates on the 'Prices' page (by specifying the dates the prices should apply for event booking); the basket page shows the appropriate price for the date booked (the higher rate is not shown)
Code
A code of any characters can be created and provided to attendees. When the code is entered into the "Promotional Code" box on the basket page, the discount will be applied. This type of discount is often used in promotional mailings.
Attendees entering a "Code" discount on the basket page cannot have this discount removed by an event manager. See "Registration prompt" below if this is a common occurrence.
Code Sequence
Code sequence works in a similar way to "Code", but uses a sequence of codes to trigger the discount. This allows multiple codes to trigger the same discount. You can also specify the "re-uses" value, which limits the number of times that each codes may be used.
The code is required as an answer to a question on the registration page. For example: "Please enter your membership number." If an organization has a range of codes, such as membership numbers, these can be uploaded into the code sequence value range.
Payment Method
This is only applicable to the basket page. If used, a discount or a surcharge can be applied when the attendee selects the method of payment linked to the discount. This is commonly used for "credit card surcharges".
Quantity
This is only applicable to group registrations and ticketing.
This discount is based on a minimum number of the same item being purchased. For example, if the registration contains the same session 5 times, then the discount will apply to all items.
Group Quantity
This has the same functionality as a "Quantity" discount but it is not restricted to the same item. For example, if the total number of differing booked sessions is above 5, the discount can apply to all 5 sessions, the 5th session, or the 5th and above sessions.
Individual Quantity
This is applicable to group registrations only.
This allows you to set a discount on the nth attendee's entry to the session, the entire event, or the purchase of an additional bookable item.
For example, if 5 people register for an event, the 5th person receives a 10% discount on the same session/event/item, depending on your preference. If however, a 6th person registers they will not receive the discount as it is for the nth person alone. This discount is often used for 'buy-one-get-one-free' types of discount .
Value
This is only applicable to the value of the basket.
If the value of the basket is above the amount entered in the minimum value box, this discount will apply. The attendee does not need to trigger this discount, it applies automatically based on basket value.
Compulsory
This creates an automatic discount for any item. The attendee does not need to enter a code to trigger the discount. Anyone who registers during the discount active date will receive the discount.
The discount is shown on the summary/basket page. Compulsory discounts make a great option as a temporary incentive.
Registration Prompt
This causes the discount to apply if a particular answer is given against a registration question, or combination (up to three) of registration questions. It works in the same way as a "Code" discount, but allows the registration contact to enter a code on the registration page rather than the basket page.
Using registration prompt discounts allow event managers to easily add/remove discount codes from a registration, and prevent more than one code being entered. This can also be used for category specific discounts, making a question only visible to a single category will only allow that category to receive the discount.
Attendee Quantity
This allows you to set up discounts that will be applied to the entire event price based on the number of people who book.
For example, attendees from the same company who are registering for themselves could qualify for a discount depending on the set minimum quantity, and the answer to a registration prompt. With the minimum quantity set to "5" and "Registration Prompt 1:" set to "Company", every 5th attendee who registers for the event from the same company would get the discount.
Tip: Attendees must use the same value for the "Company" name in order to trigger the discount. These attendees could come from the same registration or from individually completed registrations.
*If "Attendee Quantity" discounts are "non-exclusive", we do not recommend combining with "exclusive" discounts as this may cause unpredictable results.
Other discount settings
Discounts can also be given the following attributes:
Capacity - This allows you to set the number of times the discount can be used across the entire event. If you set the maximum number of times the discount can be used at 2, only two people registering for the event will be able to use that discount
Exclusive - You can make a discount exclusive, so the discount cannot be combined with other "non-exclusive" discounts. If multiple discounts are made "exclusive", they can be combined
