When website pages in your event contain a larger amount of content, it may become difficult for attendees to navigate around the page. Anchors can be utilized to allow attendees to navigate more effectively throughout the page by establishing links that viewers can click to move to a specific area of the page .
Note: Our default functionality allows for anchors within a single page. It is possible to link to an anchor on a different page with slightly more work, which will be explained later in this article.
Adding anchors to a website page
Anchors can be added to your website page when adding the content, or after all content has been added. The process involves adding anchors to different sections of the page, then adding hyperlinks which link to those anchors. Follow the steps below to add anchors:
Go to Website > Content > Website Pages
Visit the page containing the content you want to add anchors to
Hover over the ‘Edit’ icon and select “Edit”
Place your cursor in the section you want to ultimately link to (using our example of “Speakers” you would add the anchor where the speaker information is listed)
Click the “Anchor” icon in the toolbar
Enter a name for your anchor (something obvious such as the speaker’s name)
Click “OK”
Repeat steps 1-7 until all anchors have been added
Adding hyperlinks to anchors
Once anchors have been added throughout your text block, the next step is to add hyperlinks which link to those anchors. For easiest configuration, the hyperlinks should exist in the same text block as your content. Follow the steps below:
Go to Website > Content > Website Pages
Visit the page containing the content you’ve added anchors to
Hover over the ‘Edit’ icon and select “Edit”
Highlight the text you want to hyperlink (generally this is text at the top of the page)
Click the “Insert/edit link” icon
Use the “Anchor” dropdown and select the appropriate anchor
Click “OK”
Repeat steps 1-7 until all hyperlinks have been added
Note: Once anchors and hyperlinks have been added, use the “Preview” button at the top of the website editor to test your anchors.
Using anchors across website pages
While the default functionality is designed for anchors to exist on a single page, it is possible to link to an anchor on a different page. In order to do this, you must first understand how to create direct URLs to your website pages.
Make sure the anchors have already been added to the website page containing the content. Once the anchors exist, you will need to obtain a direct URL to that website page.
Take the direct URL to the website page and add “#anchorID” to the ending, where the “anchorID” is the actual name you’ve given your anchor. For example, if the anchor ID is “JSmith”, your full URL may look like:
The URL above would then be added as a hyperlink to the text that should direct to your anchor.
Tip: You can add an anchor at the top of the page and then add hyperlinks in each section called “Back to top”, allowing people to quickly return to list of links.
